Jacob Nydegger

American pianist Jacob Nydegger is a pianist and educator whose artistic work spans solo, chamber, and collaborative performance internationally. He serves as Assistant Professor of Piano at National Taiwan Normal University and previously held the title of Lecturer in Piano and Chamber Music at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden.

Nydegger regularly appears as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative artist in Europe, North America, and Asia. A prizewinner in several international competitions, he received First Prize at the 2022 Petroff Piano Competition and First Prize at the 2021 Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition, along with additional awards at the William Knabe, Kuleshov, and Weatherford International Piano Competitions. His orchestral engagements include appearances with the Lüneburger Symphoniker, the Colorado College Festival Orchestra, the University of North Texas Symphony Orchestra, and the Heinrich-Schütz-Konservatorium Orchester. He has performed in major venues including London’s Royal Albert Hall and the Kulturpalast Dresden, and regularly appears in concert series and festivals across Europe, the United States, and Asia. In chamber music, he performs regularly in a piano duo with his wife, pianist Esme Wong, with engagements presented in Asia, the United States, and Germany.

Nydegger’s recordings includes a release on Toccata Classics featuring piano works by Hendrik Andriessen, including several world-premiere recordings. His discography continues with Portraits (2024), a chamber album featuring the complete works for flute and piano by Peter Senchuk. A forthcoming recording on the Classic Produktion Osnabrück label will present additional vocal and collaborative repertoire, extending his engagement with underrepresented literature.

His performances and recordings have been noted for “smooth, elegant power” (Fanfare Magazine), “formidable technical skill” (TheaterJones), and “enormous flow” (KlassiskMusik). He has presented masterclasses and artistic coaching at institutions and festivals including the Westfjords Piano Festival and the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Nydegger holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance from the University of North Texas, where he studied with Joseph Banowetz. He completed advanced studies in the Meisterklasse program at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden under Hinrich Alpers and was subsequently invited to join the faculty.
